Testimonial
"I have been seeing Nik for Esalen and deep tissue massage treatments for almost 10 years and cannot recommend them more highly! Nik has helped me ease general tension, find deep relaxation, and address both chronic and acute injuries. Nik's treatments have helped me through demanding graduate school and professional experiences and multiple pregnancies, and they have helped me address aches and pains that come with an active lifestyle. I always feel deeply supported during my sessions with Nik, they are able to ease gently into deep muscle work." ~Zarah Rahman
Frequently Asked Questions Albany
What is Esalen® Massage?
“In the Esalen massage, four basic principles are operating:
1. The practitioner is working with, instead of on, the client. 2. The massage is a moving meditation; the practitioner is committed to being as fully present as possible for the entire massage session, bringing a full-hearted, meditative presence to the table. 3. The practitioner is aware that a client may be affected on physical, mental, emotional or even spiritual levels. 4. Long, flowing strokes, integrated throughout the massage give a sense of relaxation, connection and wholeness. When looking at these principles more deeply, it is apparent how interrelated they are: When a practitioner is working with, instead of on, a client, the practitioner learns to listen and respond to what he/she/[they] is feeling both in the actual tissues and on an intuitive level. Consequently, the Esalen practitioner responds to the unique issues presented by the individual client, instead of imposing a particular protocol, from or set way of working as in some other forms of massage. In order to successfully feel and know what is appropriate for a particular client, the practitioner needs to develop a full-hearted presence, the ability to be truly present and focused with the client, and to listen with the whole being. Often, bringing this full-hearted presence to the table enables a client to feel safe enough internally to relax and let go on very deep levels. Formerly unexpressed emotions, the holding of tissues that often follow with trapped emotions, or even held pain due to physical or emotional trauma-all have the opportunity to rise to the surface and clear from the bodymind, frequently affecting the client on more than a physical level. The responsibility of the Esalen practitioner is to stay fully present and provide a safe space, thus supporting the release of the pain or emotion that was originally trapped in the tissue in the body. The fourth principle, the long, flowing strokes in Esalen massage, not only relax and prepare clients for deeper touch, they also easily move the practitioner from one area to another are of the body, supporting the feelings of connection, integration and wholeness. The effectiveness of the long integrating strokes is becoming more apparent as evidenced by the number of other massage modalities have begun incorporating signature Esalen strokes.” ~Deborah Anne Medow – Massage Magazine April 2011 Do you offer gift Certificates?

2- Review the Frequently Asked Questions 3- Book a session HERE What to expect in a session?
Before your session I review what you share on your intake form to get an idea of how I can best support you and to work with you in your specific needs.
Please arrive no more than 5 minutes before your session time. When you arrive, you will be asked to wash your hands and if you'd like you can use the bathroom. We'll then settle into the massage space and chat about how you are, what your body needs are and how I can support you. I'll leave the room, giving you space to undress to your comfort level. Many people ask if they should leave their underwear on or take it off, this is 100% up to you. What I do say is that I often to work in the gluteal muscles and there are specific ways I do this work when using oil that I cannot do if fabric is there. And there are other ways of getting into this region that I can do through fabric. I do use draping. And use warmed rice bags to keep draping in place and support your comfort. Before returning into the room I give a knock/check in verbally with you to make sure it is okay that I enter. I begin the session. When the session ends I let you know and once you are dressed and transitioned I'll come back in so we can chat about the session (if you like), give you at home exercises, settle payment and offer to schedule a follow up session. do I Tip?
This is up to you and I do not expect it.
*When you do pay more than the base rate you are contributing to the capacity of the adjusted rate sessions I can offer. |

Esalen Integrative Massage is a fragrance and scent free practice.
I wear only fragrances free body products, use scent free oil and lotions during your session and use only scent / fragrance free cleaning products. Nik uses PureGreen24 (an EPA approved disinfectant to kill Covid-19) to disinfect massage table and chairs surfaces and alcohol to disinfect door nobs and other surfaces. For those who have MCS or other environmental sensitivities- I strive to have a scent and fragrance free practice and cannot guarantee 100% scent free as sometimes clients come in wearing scents and there may be scents in the building materials / carpets that I cannot control. I have two air purifiers in the massage space of both locations. Please reach out if you have any questions. Why scent free?
IMPORTANT... I am allergic to scents and chemicals, including but not limited to perfumes & cologne, laundry detergent, essential oils and shampoos. I ask folks to please come in as fragrant/scent free as possible to your session.
Also, some staff members and patients of BAP/TNW have allergies and if they are exposed it cause physical reactions, sometimes causing them to have to leave the space. Things that can help are; if you are going to shower the day of your appointment don't use scented soaps, shampoos, lotions, don't put deodorant on right before coming in and if you've had your hair recently dyed or treated wear a cloth wrap to contain any scents. Let me know if you have questions and here is a link to my website that has more details and resources ... Scent and Fragrance Free practice. Is BAP Fragrance-Free?
From Berkeley Acupuncture's website:
"BAP strives to be a fragrance-free space. Many of our patients and some of our staff have sensitivities to fragrance that cause physical reactions, sometimes causing them to have to leave the clinic if they are exposed. Therefore we request all our patients, staff, and visitors to refrain from using any scented products, including essential oils and other "natural" scents, prior to coming to BAP. However, we cannot guarantee a completely fragrance free environment. If you smell fragrance in the clinic or on any linens please let us know. We use a hydrogen peroxide cleaner, approved by the EPA to kill SARS-CoV2 which has a mild smell (not added fragrance, just the hydrogen peroxide) to disinfect the chairs and treatment areas. We use Clean Well sanitizing wipes, as well as alcohol, on the computer, doorknobs, and practitioner work areas." Is TNW Fragrance free?
True Nature Wellness is newly fragrance free. They transitioned to fragrance and scent free and this has opened up the opportunity for me to work there!
All of the cleaning, soaps, laundry detergents and sanitizers are scent and fragrance free. We are working together together to create a fragrance and scent free environment and cannot 100% guarantee a completely fragrance free environment. If you smell fragrance anywhere in the wellness center please let us know, so we can work to remedy it. Bathrooms
